Designed by Artizara t-shirt contest winner Mariam Popal Hama, this shirt features the word Hulm in an original Arabic calligraphy design. Hulm means patience or forbearance. A simple word with layers of meaning, to Mariam it signifies a woman's perseverance in pursuing her own dreams while nurturing all those around her.
Mariam in her own words:
The inspiration for this design Hulm is from what the word itself means to me. As a mother of four, I put my dreams on the sidelines to focus on raising my kids while supporting my husband in building his tea business. Now that my oldest daughter is 13, I have pursued my dreams by learning Adobe Illustrator in the early hours when my family is asleep. My dream is to find work in the field of graphic design. I was born and raised in Colorado from a biracial family. My mother is an American revert and my father is from Afghanistan. I married a Syrian so our family is very diverse. Who I see wearing this design are my fellow Muslimah sisters who are ever inspired to strive in pursuing their dreams no matter what.
