This extra long tassel necklace features the 'Hamsa' or 'Khamsa' symbol, said to ward off the evil eye. Handcrafted by Turkish artisans with faux black onyx crystals highlighted with a sparkling khamsa pendant set with cz. A piece of wearable art to treasure or to give as a gift.
The Khamsa (or Hamsa) symbol has been used as a protective amulet by many faith traditions throughout history, including followers of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Depicting the open palm of the right hand, the name Hamsa (or Khamsa in Arabic) is derived from the root meaning "five". For some Muslims it signifies the five verses of Surah Falaq, seeking Allah's refuge from evil. For others in Islamic tradition, the five fingers represent the Five Pillars of Islam. Yet other Muslims call it the "Hand of Fatima", referencing the members of the Prophet Muhammed's daughter Fatimah Zahra's family; those five people over whom the Prophet held a cloth.
Levantine Christians call it the hand of Mary, while Jews refer to it as the hand of Miriam in remembrance of the sister of Prophets Moses and Aaron.
Each piece is individually hand-made following age old jewelry-making traditions. No two pieces will be exactly alike. Differences in color, slight marks and imperfections are a hallmark of the individuality of this product.
